Memories
By Duke Tidama

The cruelty of the past is that we can only remember it. We cannot go back, cannot change or re-experience the bad or the good. We are stuck here, dragged forward endlessly into the future, always looking back at the memories of times that went by too fast, too fast.

That’s why I did it. That’s why I gathered all those souls into the crystal and smashed it against the high holy altar. It was the only way.

Now, I live within my memories endlessly. The moments of the past are my home. Now, I lay forever beside my lover, and together we face an eternity of the same moment, never changing, never aging, always being.
