In A Field of Yellow Flowers
By Amanda Firefox

We met in a field of yellow flowers.

The air was sweet. Rain tickled down to the end of my nose, mingled with her tears as we smiled together. Hands reached, fingers touched, knitted, flexed. “I missed you,” she breathed. The words caught in my throat. How to tell her. How to tell her.

“Rianna, I. . .” I hesitated. Her eyes were so deep, so blue. “The king, he. . .”

“Shhh.” She put a gentle finger to my lips. “It doesn’t matter.”

And then we kissed,

And the moment seemed to stretch on forever.
